How Avandia Works
One of the main goals of diabetes treatment is to keep blood sugar levels as close to normal as possible over time.
Avandia works differently from some other diabetes medicines. It does not cause your body to make more insulin. Instead, Avandia can help your body use its natural insulin better.
Avandia has been proven to lower blood sugar and help keep it under control.* In fact, in a large clinical trial of recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients, Avandia helped patients maintain blood sugar control for up to five years.
When you need more than one treatment
Like any medicine, Avandia isn’t right for everyone. But for some people, like those who need more than one medicine to help treat their diabetes in different ways, it may be an effective treatment option.
Your doctor may prescribe Avandia alone or with other type 2 diabetes medicines. If your blood sugar is uncontrolled despite your best efforts, your doctor may add Avandia as part of your diabetes treatment plan to help lower your blood sugar and keep it under control.*
The longer you have type 2 diabetes, the less likely it is that just one medicine will help you reach your blood sugar goals. Switching from one pill to another doesn’t tend to work as well as adding a second (or third) medicine, so your doctor may want you to take Avandia with your current medicine.
* Individual results may vary.
